Playing new songs ‘ Glimpse of Love’ and ‘ Feel the Love Go’ then going straight into ‘ Ulysses’, everyone thought it was over, but there was still time for fan favourite ‘ This Fire’. The four-song encore saw singer Alex Kapranos owning the stage with his new Andy Warhol vibes, jumping, twirling and dancing around.
Everyone in the venue was loving it, presumably their last song, they played the lead album track ‘ Always Ascending’ before heading off stage for an encore. Suddenly everyone was bouncing up and down in time with the band, who had all come forward whilst playing their guitars to form a line of pogoing on stage. During ‘T ake Me Out’, the bands second single and probably still their most iconic song, the crowd finally started to let loose. Playing a debut performance of ‘ Slow Don’t Kill Me Slow’ before much loved singles ‘ Michael’ and ‘ The Fallen’, the crowd already knew they were in for a treat. The mixture of old and new merged perfectly, creating a set list of dreams for any Franz fans.
Latest single ‘ Lazy Boy’ was played right in-between classic singles ‘ Do You Want To’ and ‘ No You Girls’, and it was spot on!Īs the set went on, alternating between all five albums, the mix of iconic songs from their back catalogue and new songs from Always Ascending formed an amazing atmosphere amongst the audience. Whilst losing guitarist Nick McCarthy and gaining two new members, together they show a new level of admirable confidence. Looking as though they may have shared a bottle of home hair bleach, singer Alex Kapranos and drummer Paul Thomson showed off their new hairdos. We caught the Glaswegian boys on tour in support of their new album Always Ascending, playing a sold-out show at Albert Hall, Manchester.įranz Ferdinand were opened by Albert Hammond Jr, also known as the guitarist from The Strokes, if you didn’t know! It was soon obvious that he had brought his front man attitude along with him as he took to the stage wearing a silver pin stripe suit and demonstrated a huge level of confidence throughout the forty-minute set. I feel it’s the most humanlike and energetic song they have made and that tempo change is something you can see a mile off, but that just gets you and your dancing shoes ready. “‘Do you want to’, is my fave tune from this band. Do You Want To (You Could Have It So Much Better, 2005) But the real highlight is the uplifting melodious, somewhat hypnotic disco that forms the coda.”ĩ. Produced by Todd Terje, the track merges a pretty indie pop melody with an infectious jerky disco-punk rhythm. It was released as the sixth(!) single from the album, suggesting that the band belatedly realised its quality. “Amazing transition from intro into the song.
Stand on the Horizon (Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, 2013 “After i stopped listening to this for a few days, the melody in “Can’t Stop Feeling” kept playing through my brain though I did not know what song it was. Can’t Stop Feeling (Tonight: Franz Ferdinand Lovely little inoffensive album, with just enough variety to keep you interested.”ġ1. “Nothing too ground-breaking or original here, but I’m biased massively because Franz Ferdinand made the first and second albums I ever bought. Send Him Away (Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, 2009) Calling the album a second-rate carbon copy of its predecessor is a bit harsh, but my hesitancy to denounce the album as downright derivative doesn’t save it from being entirely superfluous.”ġ8. “On You Could Have It So Much Better, Franz Ferdinand valiantly attempt to recreate the magic of Franz Ferdinand but only succeeds in sounding hopelessly bland.
